Focus on Men’s Health This Father’s Day Weekend

With all of the Juneteenth celebrations going on, don't forget that Sunday is also Father's Day. June is Men's Health Month, so while honoring dad, take some time to remind him about staying healthy in mind, body, and spirit.

After more than two years of interrupted lives and wondering what the next month would bring, the pandemic has taken a toll on the mental health of many of our communities. That is why RER Consulting, in partnership with New Horizons Community Mental Health Center and Miami-Dade County, hosted a Mental Health & Wellness Community Day at JL (Joe) and Enid W. Demps Park in Miami, including a free yoga and mindfulness session led by Shante Haymore-Kearney.

Five ways for men to lean into self-care

  • Get clear on your whyIdentify why reaching your health goals matters to you. It is much easier to maintain a regimen when the motivation is strong enough and the risks are significant enough.
  • Build a health support teamEveryone needs support to succeed. Your team can include anyone cheering for you and anyone helping you get there: family members, co-workers, doctors, and fitness instructors.
  • Use your benefitsCheck your health insurance for online health resources you may already have access to.
  • Schedule activity ahead of timePlan your workouts and set up the details that let you win, including child care, food planning, and the right gear. Start with small goals. Simple changes are fine. Exercise is a lifelong practice, so start where you are and honor your body for what it can do and how far it has brought you.
  • Try new thingsWorkouts and exercise science have evolved. Learning about current approaches can motivate you, inspire you, and keep you from plateauing or burning out.
